Canterbury Tales Fact

Mrs. Moon can I use Congregating at the Tabard Inn, the pilgrims decide to tell stories to pass their time on the way to Canterbury. Each of the pilgrims will tell two stories on the way to Canterbury, and two stories on the return trip.

  1. The Canterbury Tales is a collection of stories written in Middle-English by Geoffrey Chaucer at the end of the 14th century.

  3. Chaucer worked many jobs, including: a page, a soldier, an esquire, a diplomat, a customs controller, justice of the peace, member of Parliament, Clerk of the Works of Westminster, Commissioner of Walls and Ditches, and Deputy Forester of the Royal Forest.

  4. Chaucer was born in London and his name means shoemaker. He did not begin the Canterbury Tails until he was in his 40s and it was left unfinished when he died.

  6. Canterbury Tales has strong parallels with The Decameron, which Chaucer encountered on his trip to Italy. One thing Chaucer did differently is to write about "sondry folk" instead of nobles

  7. Im assuming this was the assignment for the day?

    Chaucer was in the army Edward III, he was also caputerd by the French, but was freed.

  9. Chaucer vanished from the historical record around 1399. He is believed to have died of unknown causes on 25 October 1400 but there is no firm evidence for this date, as it comes from the engraving on his tomb, which was built more than one-hundred years after Chaucer's death.
