Whew! The papers are done! Come and see me tomorrow to get your paper! A few things (some are reiterated from class today):

Your grade directly reflects how much you paid attention in class and how hard you worked. Some things I know I went over in class numerous times, yet some people blatantly did the opposite. Do you think I say things for my health? If you listened to me and followed the rules of research, your grade most likely reflects that, too. Overall, you should be proud of your papers! They were very LONG and interesting. I really learned a ton of information!

If you did not use an interview, -10 points. If you did not use 6 sources, -10 per source not used. If you did not have 1" margins, -10 points. If your paper was late, -10 points.

Remember that you need to work on your products over Spring Break! Do something and write it on your product log!

Bad News

Guys, I don't think that I am going to be able to grade all of the papers by tomorrow! I have been grading like a mad woman and I still have a few to go. I am going to try really hard to finish them, but I just wanted you all to be aware that you may have to wait until Thursday to get your paper grades back.

But, everyone will get their mid-term grades at the end of class tomorrow!

Is it cool if I just take a piece of cardboard and make it pretty (to put my visual on, I mean), instead of going to buy an actual posterboard?

But, unfortunately, I am stuck inside grading research papers!!!!! I did make it out for a while and went to the HUGE book sale going on at the library on Military Cutoff. If you can go, you really should! The husband and I got 15 books for $30! And some were huge hard-bound books. I have also washed my car, but now, alas, I am grading papers.

They are pretty good. Today, so far, I've graded 1 A, 2 Bs, and 2 Cs. Lourens, I'm getting ready to grade yours next...

This link is the closest I could find to the version in our book. It's neat, too, because you can read it in both Middle and Modern English. So, switch it around and see if you can read it!

quotes

Random question ... when we use quotes in our speech, are we supposed to say "quote" and "unquote?" I've heard people do that before, and I wasn't sure if we were supposed to.

Sick & vocab quiz

Im sick with a cold/flu/fever, so i wont be in class tomarrow. Is there anything i need to do, and may i make up my vocabulary quiz on thursday during fourth block?

Canterbury Tales Fact

Mrs. Moon can I use Congregating at the Tabard Inn, the pilgrims decide to tell stories to pass their time on the way to Canterbury. Each of the pilgrims will tell two stories on the way to Canterbury, and two stories on the return trip.

I'd been trying to get in contact with my mentor all week so I could meet with her this weekend, but she wasn't available. Is there any way I can meet with her Monday after school?

Mid- Term Speech

If we kind of like our analysis, can we put that in our midterm speech? Also on the outline form you gave us it mentioned picking 2-3 examples, I am having a hard time picking so few facts. Can we put more? or do you think then we ma go over 5 min's.

I know we have to talk about all three prongs of our paper in our midterm speech, but we can choose which parts of each prong to talk about, right? I mean, could I choose to include points A and B but not C of one prong?
By the way, I left my mentor a message with someone at her office, one on her cell phone, and an email, and I haven't heard anything from her. What should I do?

So, for your practice, you don't need your visual, but you do need your 5 note cards with bulleted information on them. You don't need to dress up, but you will need to be professional! This is a grade; if you don't get a B--you have to go again, and again, and again, until you do get at least a B.

Over the weekend, since you don't have to work on your research papers (for the first time in a long time), start drafting your speech. Print out your research paper and highlight the info you want to share. Add transitions, specific facts, and analysis. Draft an actual speech. Practice it--then make 5 note cards with bulleted info on them that will help you to remember what to say.

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!

I can tell BS from a mile away. Trust me. I've heard it all.

If my title of an article ends in a ? mark, do i still add a period in my works cited page?

some of my quotes are REALY long so on my note card i wrote where it is specifically in my source. Is this okay, or do i really need to write the long ones directly onto the note cards?

does anybody know if we write put "4%" as "four percent" or keep it in numerical form? Is it the same with "90%"?

Is it a problem if I have some paragraphs that dont have a specific 1 or 2 to themselves, but instead are grouped with another paragraph to be a 1 or 2? Or should I create more numbers for these paragraphs

Good news mrs moon. Went and talked to Mrs. Martinez after school and she was incredibly nice like usual and sat down that very second and did the interview with me.

And for those of you who are having trouble concentrating, my paper is on music and the brain and a huge portion of it is in the Mozart Effect. It is proven that listening to his extremely complex music aligns the pathways in your brain and helps you concentrate up to an hour after listening!

I have a question: I'm taking points made in different sections of my book source and combining them in my paper. How do I put multiple pages in my in-text citation?

Over the weekend...

work on your paper! You should have the entire thing finished on Monday. Now, that may not be a perfect copy yet, but if you have the paper in its entirety, it will be much easier to fix and you will know what questions to ask me on Monday.

Things to think about regarding your paper:

• Type your parallel outline with thesis at the top
• Make a bib card for your image and interview
• Add quotes
• Add transitions
• Add analysis
• Type Works Cited page

Class ended pretty quickly today, so here's a review of what we have going on:

1. Vocab due tomorrow
2. Get that interview done and complete your transcript
3. Work on your 8 pages.

Now is the time to start really thinking about making your paper flow. Add transitions and analysis. If you start now, you won't be stressed on March 9th.

4. Find a visual to add in your paper. Remember to document it (meaning make a bib card and use internal documentation) and explain it. How does it support your argument?
